Enforced social distancing is difficult but it is also an opportunity to spend some more time with God. There are so many online resources to help us pray and worship at home. Some are listed below. If you come across others which you find particularly helpful, please let us know via the church office and we can upload them here.

Apps – for your smartphones or tablets

An ‘App’ is short for ‘application’ – which is another name for a computer program. Normally, when people talk about apps they are referring to programs that run on mobile devices, such as smartphones or tablet computers. The following are Apps which enable Christian worship in some way.

For those of us who like Anglican worship, Time to Pray presents everything you need for this variety of prayer – with variations according to the day of the week and the season of the Church’s year. You can use Time to Pray as a pattern of prayer at the beginning and end of the day.

The Church of Ireland equivalent is Daily Worship. This app brings the content of the Book of Common Prayer into the smartphone era by presenting its content in one place, including Bible readings and liturgies for each day of the year. The app covers five services – Daily Prayer (Morning), Daily Prayer (Evening), A Late Evening Office, Compline, and Holy Communion – and draws on the rich liturgical resources of the Church of Ireland.

The Bible in One Year (app or daily email) is a free Bible reading app with commentary by Nicky and Pippa Gumbel. Nicky Gumbel is the Vicar of HTB in London and pioneer of Alpha.

Produced by Shane Claiborne – a Christian activist and author – Common Prayer is a tapestry of daily prayers inviting Christians from around the world to pray, sing, and act together. You’ll find prayers for every evening, morning and midday that celebrate the best of the Christian tradition and engage with the most pressing issues of our world today.

LECTIO 365 is a daily devotional resource that helps you pray the Bible every day. Written by leaders from the 24–7 Prayer movement, and produced in partnership with CWR, this resource helps you engage with Scripture to inspire prayer and shape your life.

Podcasts – for your smartphones or tablets

A podcast is a series of spoken word, audio episodes, focused on a particular topic or theme. You can subscribe to the show with an app on your phone or tablet and listen to episodes whenever you like on your headphones or through speakers. Here are some of the best available Christian podcasts available.

How we respond to different speakers and sermons tends to be subjective – but here are some video sources which rarely disappoint.
